Our Farm

When I think back to when we first bought this farm back in 2004, I am amazed at how far we have come! It was a blank slate. It had gorgeous old redgums, and great views, and of course the spectacular “Balancing Rock”, but not much else! With Cam’s knowledge in farming, and my passion to be sustainable and self sufficient we knew we could make it work! We knew it had potential and we couldn’t wait to get stuck in.

Why Balancing Rock Farm?

We have lots of rocky granite outcrops on our farm, and lots of weird and wonderful rock formations, but this one is definitely one of the most amazing. As soon as we saw it, before we’d even purchased the land, we knew this farm would become “Balancing Rock Farm”

The farm is completely dependant on rain fall. We collect the rain in tanks for house use, and a few dams for stock water, and to use in the garden. Because of this, our productivity from year to year varies immensely.

Our Livestock

The livestock we have on the farm is continually evolving – but currently we have around 500 ewes –  that lamb each June/July, 30 fat hereford cows – calving in September/October, 2 jersey milking cows, 30 (ish) free range hens – and a couple of roosters, 2 horses, three dogs, a cat, a turtle and a gold fish!

The Produce Garden

I looooove to be in the garden! We quickly put in a large vegetable growing area when we first bought the farm and the following year we planted 30 fruit trees.  We have since expanded the vegie garden and also added two hot-houses to assist with getting seeds started and allowing more winter production.
